Conor McGregor is ‘capable, with good power’, says Paul Malignaggi after sparring for Floyd Mayweather fight

Conor McGregor is stepping up his preparations for his mega-fight against Floyd Mayweather by sparring Paul Malignaggi, and the former world champion is impressed with the Irishman.

Malignaggi, a former super lightweight and welterweight world champion has been brought into camp by McGregor despite there appearing to be some bad blood between the two men.

Anthony Joshua is a ‘p***y’ but Deontay Wilder wants to fight, says Luiz Ortiz manager

McGregor said of Malignaggi during the recent press tour: ‘Paulie talked a load of s***.

‘He’s being brought in to spar, and he’ll answer to what he’s been saying. Then we’ll go from there after that. We’re going to have a knock in the gym.’

McGregor shared the above image of a sparring session with the ‘Magic Man’ which appears to show him showboating and making the veteran struggle.

However, it would be foolish to take too much away from one solitary image of an eight round spar – although Malignaggi was complimentary of McGregor’s work.

‘Eight rounds, good work. I can’t disclose too much but McGregor is no dummy… There’s a method to his madness,’ the 36-year-old told NYFights.com.

‘He has an idea of what he wants to do and how he wants to do it, he’s not clueless.

‘He’s not your conventional boxer by any means but he’s capable and his power is good. Whether that can be effective is up to him, but he’s no dummy!’
